If we combine the input diode structure of a DTL gate into a single transistor, we get a few advantages. First, a transistor takes up no more room in an IC than a diode, so we get a space savings. Second, a single transistor will operate more rapidly than a pair of separate diodes. Let's see how this can be made to work in a practical circuit.
