I have restored the last piece of the recall code, which actually went on the room itself and I'd forgotten all about. It is now fully operational.

MUX Announcements / Plains Dungeon TP 4/30!

I'm going to be running a TP on Saturday, April 30, at 1 pm. You know you want to attend!

After the death of the huge worm beast out on the plains west of the unnamed city, its death throes uncovered a tunnel leading deep into the earth, one hollowed out and reinforced by sentient hands! The people of the unnamed city struggle for both resources and answers; and this sort of hidden place just might have some of both! It will surely have dangers, though, and the weak of will need not apply.

Do you have what it takes? Join your fellow adventurers and brave the darkness!

I have been informed that the ISP for FFMUX will be performing maintenance between 12 and 5 AM on Friday, 2/26. It's possible that the game, wiki, and forums will be unavailable for all or part of that window. Please plan accordingly.

MUX Announcements / Opening TP is on March 13th!

That's right, everyone, after all the waiting on tenterhooks, the time has finally arrived! Bring your approved character and your excitement for RP and join us, March 13th, at 1 pm EST for our opening scene!

We're expecting a fairly large scene, so it might take a while, but it'll be a perfect opportunity to get to know the people around you in...well, I wouldn't want to spoil what's going to happen. To find out you'll have to be there! (Or read the log afterwards, but being there is better!)

We hope to see you all there!

Hello, all!

Yes, things are happening (slowly). Yes, I live. Yes, I still cling to the planet :)

And I have done a few things to help get this game back on its feet and make the place more workable.

  • We now have a full, working jobs system. Some of you may be familiar with Anomaly Jobs from other games -- we're using it here. It governs our chargen process and will govern our upgrade process as well, when that is implemented. If you're not familiar or need a refresher, look at +Jhelp player.
  • Chargen is up and operational! Please, if you want to continue to play on FFMUX, you will need to run through the chargen room off the OOC Lounge. Any previous approvals will stay, but there's a few things that the chargen room does that I need for current and future code. Most everything should already be set if you're an existing player.
  • Yes, I know +Appstaffer needs an update. It's getting one, and I'm toying with the idea of making it a bit more useful.

MUX Announcements / Apps are opening January 5th!

That's right! It's finally time to get a move on and start things fresh! First order of business is making sure that players both new and veteran will be able to apply for new characters. Applications are opening January 5th!

We decided to hold off a bit since a lot of folks were unable to stick around during the holidays, but things are coming together, both ICly and OOCly, and it is time to get the party started. But first, a few changes to the app system have occurred and I would like everyone to be on the same page. Without further ado:

We're pretty sure everyone knows by now that powergaming isn't cool, so we've done away with the question concerning it. Mind you, the policy has NOT changed, it's still in our policy statement in black and white. We just don't demand people define words in our app process anymore.

We do not fixate on a specific minimum app size anymore. That's right, the hard floor of 10K is gone! Again, we are still looking for the same things we always were, so this should not be misconstrued as a reason to send us two paragraphs of history and a dissertation about powers. For the love of all that is holy please do not do that. Instead, we'd like players to be aware that we're judging apps based on how well the player knows the character and how well (s)he will be played. Apps should be written with an eye towards showing staff you can be trusted to roleplay well, and not towards just edging over that minimum. It's our hope as staff that this will encourage players to be creative and enthused about showing us what you all can do, and avoid meaningless text padding. Just remember history and personality are the two most critical things in every app.

Please be aware that, for right now, we are limiting new applications to characters from the main games in the series (FF1 through FFX, FF12, FF13). Given the small playerbase, it is our hope that this will create more incentive for players to work together and have built-in storylines since they're more likely to know each other. This list may expand in the future, depending on how things go.

We have switched to a web-based app process, to get us at least a tiny bit closer to modern. XD  The link is quite prominent on the main page at http://ffmux.play-hookey.com. If there's any problems with the form, please let us know! This is new for us, too, and there's bound to be a glitch or two.

As always, please, PLEASE log in to the MUX or drop us a line on the forums to discuss things with us. Did you like the changes we made? Is there anything we can do better? We'll never be able to make the game people want if they don't tell us what they want. Also, if you have a character idea but aren't sure how well it'd fit, or if you need advice on your app, by all means chat with us! There's no need to spend ages on an app in a vacuum only to find we didn't like it. Bounce the ideas off us, let us work stuff out with you, and save yourself a lot of app-writing time.
